About Us

In 1977 Mr W J Paulley, the then sports master and later Counsellor at the Blandford School, arranged a cricket match between the "Old Boys" of the school and the school staff.  This became an annual fixture and, in later years, other games were arranged for the Old Boys team against other local club sides.

Playing in these games were two great Old Blandfordians, David Farley and Geoff Pike.  The two of them, along with another cricketing friend Stuart Adam, saw that these games were proving extreamly popular and because of this, and as well of seeing there were people unable to get a game of cricket else where, they took the decision to form the Old Blandfordians Cricket Club.

A Cricket Club for all ages and abilities

The Club's main objective is to provide cricketing enjoyment for all abilities and ages - indeed in one match the difference between the opening bowler and wicket keeper was 58 years!  To facilitate this, the club has two sides at the different ends of the league scale.  During 2008 the Sunday side played its cricket in the top division whilst the Saturday team played its games in Division 8.

One of the things the Old Blandfordians also try to do is maintain the sportsmanship traditionally associated with cricket.  When it is played in the right spirit it is a great game.

All you need to have to play cricket for the Old Blandfordians is a love of the game.  If you have that, then the Old Blandfordians Cricket Club is there for you.
A Cricket Club not just for cricketers

Here at Old Blandfordians we recognise that a game of cricket can take up rather a long time.  We therefore encourage families and friends of the people playing to also get involved with our club.

It is not uncommon to have more than twenty wives, children and friends at Old Blandfordians games and it is a great way of socialising and meeting new friends.

In addition the Old Blandfordians Cricket Club has forged a great partnership with The Railway Hotel in Blandford which is not only the clubs main sponsor, it is also a place which the OBCC affectionately refer to as its second home and provides us with a great place to talk over the finer points of cricket once a game has concluded.
